IronHead Ned basecoated

I finished up basecoating IronHead Ned. I get a definite western feel from this figure. I ended up using ruddy leather for the jacket, denim blue for the pants lone star leather for the boots and oiled leather for the belt and gun holster. Used gun mental over black for the metal bits and Oldwest rose for the bandana, tho I think I'll go more red with white in it..pink isn't really want I was going for. Used same basic tecnique to drybrush the cobblestone but tried building up the highlights on the fern abit more ..might have done to much.will let it sit till I've finished with rest of figure and if need be I'll use a green glaze to tone it down abit.

Blackwater Gulch Gatlin Gun

I got the metalics finished and drybrushed some highlights thru the 3 tones of army painter metalics. then used the sewer water wash to shade the wood. I used black ink to shade the metal..Its a good look for an old gun like this one.
Not sure how much more detail work I want to do on this one ..

Blackwater Gulch figures all based and primed

Its been a while since I updated. Between work and Rocksmith I seem to be slacking off alot

I got the rest of all the blackwatch gulch figures assembled over the last couple weeks.

the Serenity crew were especially frustrating to assemble..the small hands on the doc were separated at the wrist instead of the elbow..which just didn't leave enough material to pin. none of the arms or hands had nibs to help attach with all were flat cuts.
the feet weren't really attached to the slot bases..they were raised off on these very thin stalks that were more star shaped then round or square..so had to drill them all as well the shotgun on the back of Jayne wasn't keyed at all so had to try and file  slot to glue to.
They're done but took alot more time to clean and assemble then all the rest.

Indiana Jones is ok but I ended up bending reshaping the whip so it touched the hat and the back of the sleave as well as his hand..I think it still looks ok and with 3 contact points shouldn't break so easily.

The rangers were better and got them all assembled except the civil war gun which I can't see assembling till its all painted so thats what I'm working on. The base is finished and just need to paint the metal over the black basecoat, do some metalic highlights(probably dry brush) then glue it down to the base.

EOD figures so far

I think Iron Head Ned is gonna be the next I work on should be pretty straight forward..gonna try to do abit different tone of brown for the coat
He's a fun looking guy to do I think.
Here he is primed up and ready to basecoat

and just as abit of a progress so far on the EOD figures, long way to g,o but as a whole I think they're working out..I'm trying to not use the exact colors over and over ,was worried about the dusky skin for the pants for example..but it looks pretty good as a group so far.
the Green Plantern is definitely the least unassuming of the lot heh.

the specimen almost done

so i got to spend some more time on this botanical hero. I used vampiric shadow for the shirt shaded it with a watered down black wash and built up the colors just adding white..seemed to make sense.

for the pants I used ashen blue to blend up the highlights from the denim blue. just regular black and grey for the shoes.
for the wrapping fine I added yellow to the brown to lighten the tops but the last brown wash might have flattened alot of that..but I like the darker brown for tree's and roots that the wash gives.I just blended in the same yellow to the brown on the spine ridge to highlight it and added a #71 to the id tag hanging on his wrist.
Think its pretty much done except for the gloss and dullcotes.

Tuesday 7 January 2014

the specimen continues

so i made a dark blue wash for the pants..tho it didn't turn out as dark as i had intened I'll just have to build up the midtones and highlights more..
for the flesh I used some sewer water wash mixed with peacock green for the shading..its abit streaker then I'd like not sure why that happened.

so after that I tried blending in the midtones for the flesh ..then added some marigold yellow to start the first layer of highligting..then after added some linen white after and then a mostly linen white with a touch of the light green color for the beard and peak highlights..

I really don't know what to do about the color of the eyes..right now they're just shaded and I kinda like them murkey and dark

welp here he is so far.

The specimen begins

spent a litte time on the specimen basecoating him.
I  used olive green for the skin tones, golden brown for the roots, denim blue for the pants and vampiric shadow for shirt.
He's an intriguing figure I quiet like the look of him.

Tatu continues

spent some more time on Tatu.
i used wash's to shade most everything. Black wash mixed with some of the base color of the cloak.
blackwash for the hair, a thinned down blackwash on the peticote..
I tried some black ink on the gun metal and I think I like how inks react with the metallic paint.
After that I used a blend of ruddy brown and tanned shadow for the flesh.

I used the tanned triad to work up the flesh tone and blacked brown to shade the eyes and try and emulate the eye and arm tatoo's she has in the source art..The tats are abit rough(freehand newb that I am) I think I can use some tanned highlight to try and clean up the edges on the shoulder and eyes later.

after that used the vampiric skin triad to highlight the peticote. used yellowed bone on the handle of the gun and gory red on the heart on the gun.
Still lots to do but heres progress so far.

got some more work done..highlighting the corset and cloak and boots and hair.
as well added some detail and highlight to the gun..I tried touching up the face and shoulder tatoo abit.

and with base painted and last of details done just need varnishing now
